Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T: January 15-21, 2024

Alison Pegg

Brrr….winter finally arrived this week.

It’s been awhile since we’ve had ODR season in Ohio. This was a week where I broke out all the winter gear, and then some, as we never made it above freezing, once.

I kind of love the freezing temps though. The sun is shining and reflecting off the snow-covered ground, everything just looks gorgeous. And here’s hoping the the temps killed all.the.bugs come this summer.

Without further ado, here’s Weekly Report #3.

As Jason Kelce retires, teammates tell stories from his and Travis’ college days at Cincinnati (The Athletic)

Like every Swiftie, the New Heights podcast has become regular listening for me. I love how each week, regardless of what they’re talking about, Jason and Travis’ brotherly bond is front and center. This story from The Athletic is a third-person extension of that, sharing the brother’s shenanigans (and then some) during their college days.

Eating

Tuna Pasta Salad

Whole Foods Turkey Cranberry Walnut Salad

Salad inspiration from Whole Foods

My lunch prepping continued this week, trekking to the office in sub-zero temps. This week’s lunch was inspired by a salad I saw at the Whole Food’s hot bar, turkey cranberry walnut salad. I subbed tuna for turkey, added some pasta, and used some leftover holiday pecans instead of walnuts. Here’s everything I used:

  • 1 can tuna in olive oil

  • 1 box Banza chick pea pasta

  • 3 stalks celery, chopped

  • Handful of dried cranberries

  • Handful of chopped pecans

  • Dressing: olive oil, italian seasoning, cracked pepper

Serve over arugula dressed in olive oil (I like Graza “Drizzle”).

Playing

Jazz Piano Essentials Playlist (Apple Music)

There’s something about jazz music that makes any room’s vibes immediately cozy. I’ve been trading my holiday big band for something a little more subdued, jazz piano. This playlist from Apple Music has been delightful this January, its a perfect cozy antidote to the freezing temps outside.

Obsessing

Bucket Bag (Kaan)

In winter, I’m always on the hunt for a shoulder bag that is sleek and can help me schlep all the extras that winter requires. I think this Kaan bucket bag might be it. I spotted it first on TikTok (of course) and have yet to pull the trigger because I can’t decide what colour to get. Part of me loves the mocha, but the mocha-black (currently sold out) is chefs kiss.

Recommending

Citrus Chamomile Tea (Mighty Leaf)

I’ve had a lot of screen time this week - a full week of work, reading Iron Flame on my kindle app, and catching the last two eps of My Demon. During week’s like these, I love a cup of chamomile tea at night to help unwind after all the blue light exposure. This citrus blend is especially lovely, its super fragrant and the perfect night cap.

Treating

Kung Fu Panda 4 Lip + Cheek Set (Tower 28)

I love browsing through beauty brands’ offerings for Lunar New Year. The brands that do it well always have an exclusive shade on offer that, in my experience, is gorgeous. Case in point: Tower 28’s Beach Please Cream Blush in Dumpling Hour. Tower 28’s formula is one of my favourites, this shade is the perfect “cold girl” blush for the winter months (it’s also gorgeous as a lip stain too). Their jelly gloss is another one of my faves, this clear version with gold shimmer is so flattering and so, so fun. I picked mine up at Sephora a few weeks ago, sadly, their sold out. =(.

Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T: January 8-14, 2024

Alison Pegg

Well, week 2 of 2024 has come to an end.

The first full business week of the new year is always especially tough, and this year winter decided to enter the conversation at the end of it. Not that I’m mad, I’m kind of looking forward to a week of cozy hibernation.

Without further ado, here’s my Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. for Janury 8-14.

Reading

New York Times 52 Places to Go in 2024

Starting the week off with the NYT’s annual list of wanderlust was pretty awesome. I love scrolling through this list each year, the locales and web layout get better each and every year. And it reminded me to schedule PTO for April 8th, the solar eclipse.

Eating

Packable grain bowls for office lunch

Back to the office meant back to meal prepping pack lunches this week. I always try to make something healthy, yet filling, so I’m not wandering to the office snack bowl mid-afternoon. Recently, my lunches have consisted of some sort of grain bowl, with this week’s containing:

  • Quinoa

  • Roasted sweet potato

  • Roasted tofu

  • Shredded white cheddar cheese

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Cucumber

  • Arugula

  • Dressing: homemade maple-mustard vinaigrette

    • maple syrup, grain mustard, white vinegar, olive oil, salt & pepper

Playing

My Demon (Netflix)

Oh, how I love a k-drama romance. During winter break I started streaming My Demon, and it’s quickly become a “must watch” as new weekly episodes get released. The premise sounds absurd, a wealthy female CEO falls in love with a demon, but the family drama brings suspense (and then some) and the two leads have some of the best chemistry I’ve see in awhile. I’m looking forward to (and a little sad) that the final two episodes air next week.

Obsessing

Noor Earmuffs (Hill House Home)

As the temperatures plunge, my eyes always start to wander to winter accessories I don’t actually need but, in reality, need. Technically, I don’t own any earmuffs. So when Sarah Jacobsen shared these in her substack, The Grand Weekly, a few weeks ago, I couldn’t click on them fast enough. I love the oversized shape (perfect for my melon-sized head), and that they’re all black with a small crystal trim. I’m obsessed.

Recommending

Women’s Fleece Winter Gaiter (Lands End)

Speaking of winter accessories that I already own, this fleece gaitor has been a lifesaver on my winter walks. It layers into my coats seamlessly (no extra bulk!) and is so warm that sometimes I have to roll it down to get a breather. Bonus, it’s on sale right now for a really great price.

Treating

V-Facial Instant Depuffing Face Mask (Clarins)

Sephora included this cult mask in their skincare daily deals this week, and at 50% off, it was too tempting to pass up. After using for the first time, I totally get why this is a beloved beauty product. My skin was tighter, my face less puffy, and my pores were tiny after I washed it off. This will be great for those hairy mornings when I need a little extra help getting myself together.

Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T: January 1-7, 2024

Alison Pegg

Scrolling through TikTok has become my favourite social media distraction, I’ve picked up new recipes, found new outfit inspos, learned new makeup hacks, and laughed like a hyena at all of the funny pet videos. Late last year, a creator came across my FYP with a post chronicling things that inspired her and I loved how simple the format was. Called Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T, it shared the following:

  • R = Reading

  • E = Eating

  • P = Playing

  • O = Obsessing

  • R = Recommending

  • T = Treating

We’ll see how consistent I am with these weekly recaps, LOL. But without further ado, here’s my Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T for the first week of January.

Inc Magazine: This Marketing Pro Got Crocs on Every Celebrity From Bad Bunny to Justin Bieber. Now, He's Behind the Stanley Tumbler You Can't Escape

Given the hoopla and mayhem around the Target Stanley cup release, this article from Inc was perfectly timed from Inc Magazine.

Eating

Cabbage Roll Casserole (Eating Well)

The first time we made this casserole for family dinner, it didn’t sound like it was going to be something we’d like. Happy to be proven wrong, this casserole is full of flavour and is perfect for winter cabbage season (and your wallet). Bonus: it makes a ton, too.

Playing

A return to office this week meant a return to my regular NYT games. And now that I’ve downloaded the app on my phone, perhaps I’ll be streaking into the weekend.

Obsessing

Franco Sarto Ticada Knee High Silver Boots (Nordstrom)

I really should avoid stopping through the Nordstrom shoe department. During a quick return last week, I saw these on the sale rack and quickly became obsessed. I do not need them. But I do love the idea of these peeking out under midi and maxi dresses all winter long.

Recommending

Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Broadway in Columbus)

The songs. The visuals. The charisma. Moulin Rouge was fabulous. The show grabs and holds you for well over two hours, and the finale will have you on your feet cheering with the rest of the audience. It runs another week at the Ohio Theatre.

Treating

Legami Milano Erasable Pens (purchased at Papersource)

New year, new planner pens? I love a slim gel based pen, but what I love even more is a slim gel based pen with personality. This are so freakin’ adorable and bring me so much joy, and did I mention they’re erasable?

5 things I'm thinking about this week

Alison Pegg

Brewdog draft beef

I saw a meme last week that said “I’ve been looking forward to Labour Day since July 5th.

I laughed (of course) and commiserated (of course).

A three day holiday where everyone rests was just what the doctor ordered. I lounged around, did house stuff, shopped local and even had a draft beer on a patio before 4pm. With the exception of the temperature, it was a solid weekend balance of productivity and unplugging.

I wish I could say I’m ready to dive head first into the latter half of the year. But this year, I think I’ll just mosey. A stretch of ninety-degree days don’t really scream “go-time” for anyone I know.

And before I forget, it’s a four day week!

Here’s what I’m thinking about this week.

  1. Banana Republic Abigail Silk Maxi Dress: i am completely and totally immersed in my maxi-length phase of fashion right now. Every other length is just way less interesting to me, the fuller the length, the better. This silk long-sleeve maxi from Banana Republic (!!!) is chefs kiss. Cut on the bias, long sleeves, and a gorgeous shade of black, I wish I had more fancy places to go to really make this dress shine.

  2. Ela Vegan Leather Scrunchie: are scrunchies still a thing? When they’re this chic, I don’t think it really matters. I was scouring Ela’s Labour Day sale and came across this vegan leather scrunchie, its high quality leather is the perfect topper to an every day ponytail worn to the office this fall.

  3. New Balance RC30 Sea Salt: I wasn’t searching out another pair of sneakers to add to my collection, but somehow the sneakers just find me. I spotted these New Balance RC30s on an Instagram scroll late last week and haven’t been able to stop thinking of them since. I love how they’re a lower profile New Balance shoe, similar to a Samba, but not overdone like Sambas are now. I also love the pared back sea salt colourway with the black, and of course, the gum sole. I really dont need another pair of kicks, but these are SO GOOD.

  4. Reformation Ani Ruched White Loafer: just as I’m obsessed with silver ballet flats, I’m even more obsessed with a white loafer this fall. A true white, not an off white, ivory, or cream, the loafer has to be a true white. And while I still love and wear my chunkier loafers, a streamlined shoe in the white hue is just so sleek, modern, and current, its going to take all my classic looks and make them so fresh. This loafer from Reformation is exactly what I’m looking for, I love the ruching around the seams, and the low heel. Please come back in stock in my size!

  5. Morning Jazz Playlist by Bliss: this weekend I had this playlist on every morning as I was brewing my coffee. Its perfect, easy, romantic listening while waiting for the french press to steep.
